My home is accustomed to big, fluffy dogs, but as soon as we took in a 9 pound Chihuahua-Pug mix named Otis, we realized how different a small dogs needs can be.
First off-Otis will catch a chill very easily, so he really appreciates his sweaters and t-shirts. This fleece hoodie from HandsNPaws.com is soft and very comfy for a dog like Otis, and is easily washable. We also found that if we use the same microwavable heating pack (just one we had on hand from our other dog's surgery) to warm up the bed in his crate he sleeps much more soundly.
Otis also needs tiny toys. He loves his tiny puppy kong, and lots of little furry toys. We do have to keep a close eye on him, and also watch that the big dog's don't steal his itty bitty toys and swallow them whole!
A little bit of treat goes a long way when you're a little guy. The super small treats from Best Buddy Bits are perfect for little extra snacks and rewards after his happy dance or any of the many other cute things he manages to do.
